It is not possible to build peace or stability without tackling gender inequality. Gender-responsive foreign and development policies, ones that are age aware and inclusive of other marginalised groups, including based on gender identity, sexuality, religion, (dis)ability, and ethnicity, are essential for preventing sexual violence in conflict. What is needed is sustainable and predictable flexible funding at the national and international levels; the inclusion of women in decision-making, design, and implementation of programmes; and training coupled with policy and legal frameworks that support best practice.
