Environmental degradation contributes to loss of livelihoods and income, food and water insecurity, and forced displacement and migration, and declining ecosystem health is both a driver and is exacerbated by conflict, reinforcing cycles of instability. While a substantial body of research exists on the social and economic impacts of environmental degradation, there is currently no consolidated, policy-ready evidence base that examines how environmental degradation and potential ecosystem collapse, translates into gender-differentiated security impacts, particularly for women and girls.
This report therefore undertakes an evidence review of the gender-differentiated security impacts of environmental degradation and potential ecosystem collapse, focusing on two priority regions of Latin America and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).
